When I found about the 2 monster truck shows at Joilet this year I knew
I had to go. Joilet is only 45 minutes away and after last years show I
knew it could only get better, and it indeed did that. The May show was
fabulous. The figure 8 track was spectacular. The schedule for the
October show was changing by the day. Originally Bounty Hunter and
Scarlet Bandit were supposed to be there but had to attend a show out
West. So, they decided to send there Bear Foot and Monster Patrol trucks
out there. They were scheduled right up to the last minute, but when we
pulled into the display at Exhaust Works it was Old School Bear Foot! I
couldn't believe my eyes as I thought the truck would never run again
after the departure of BJ Johnson. Well long time driver of Boogey Van
Brian Townsend would be doing driving duties for this show. I was pumped
up especially after the performance at Rockford. I had a big problem on
my hands as my dad would not be able to attend the show so I had to tag
along with somebody. Well Jason Twite (Midwest Monsters) helped out by
picking me up. We got out on the road to the show. As soon as we entered
the gates guess who would be right there but Elliot Miller (Michigan
Monster Trucks) We talked to the drivers for a while, I showed them some
of my pictures from Crown Point, Joilet and other shows. Yet I forgot to
bring pictures from Rockford and Valpo for Brian. We went and grabbed
some seats near the finish line on what would be a very tight J track.
The trucks started out by going over a HUMONGOUS roller. Then over a 5
set of cars, around the turn and another 5 set. We met up with another
person from the internet, Steve Maver. Check out Jason Twite's
Midwest Monsters and Elliot
Miller's Michigan Monster
Trucks. Lets meet the drivers!

Raminator-Mark Hall Rammunition-Dale Benear Maniac-Don Frankish Jurassic Attack-Lindsey Weenk Scorpion King-Larry Swim Frankenstein-Paul Shafer Bear Foot Old School-Brian Townsend Airborne Ranger-Joe Cypher
The show itself was promoted very well with two displays at local exhaust works. Just like at the May show.
Racing Some Qualifying notes: Raminator took the fastest time, Rammunition caught HUGE air in the near lane. Bear Foot broke a tie rod.
Round 1: Maniac (Frankish) vs. Raminator (Hall) Frankish gets a bit of a hole shot, yet Don bounces too much going into the turn, Frankish was playing catch up but spun out in the turn, Hall caught huge air over the final set. Winner: Raminator, (Mark Hall)
Frankenstein (Shafer) vs. Airborne Ranger (Cypher) Hole shot goes to Shafer, Paul was ahead the whole race. Winner: Frankenstein (Shafer)
Bear Foot Old School (Townsend) vs. Scorpion King (Swim) Team Shafer battles it out for the first time of the night. Swim gets the hole shot and takes it to him. Mechanical troubles plagued Townsend through out the night.
Rammunition (Benear) vs. Jurassic Attack (Weenk) Frankish Enterprises was welcomed into the U.S. by getting pitted against Team Ram. Benear gets the hole shot but Weenk starts to come back in the turn. Some crazy fan in the audience yelled out "Go Lindsey!" :-). It appeared as though Weenk had Benear in the corner but he put the Hemi to the floor to take the win. Winner: Rammunition (Benear)
Round 2: Rammunition (Benear) vs. Scorpion King (Swim) Round 1 of Shafer vs. Halls. Dale takes the hole shot but takes a bad bounce going into the turn, he also took the turn very wide. they came out of the turn even but Swim beat Dale to the finish. Very close race. Swim got him by a couple of feet. Winner: Scorpion King (Swim)
Raminator (Hall) vs. Frankenstein (Shafer) Round 2 of Shafer vs. Hall. Now the bosses do battle. Hall gets the hole shot and keeps it low while Shafer is playing catch up over the roller. Hall stays low Shafer goes high. Paul took a bad bounce and took the corner wide. Hall goes around the corner perfect. Winner: Raminator (Hall)
Raminator (Hall) vs. Scorpion King (Swim) In the semi-finals Hall took one and Shafer took one. Who would take home bragging rights in Joilet? Both trucks were dead even going into the turn but in the far lane it seemed like everybody was taking nasty bounces. Swim took the turn wide and gave the win to Hall.
Winner: Raminator (Hall)
Freestyle The trucks had several obstacles to work with. There was a pool, bus pyramid, the sets of cars and the FMX hill.
Frankenstein (Shafer) Paul came out and hit the set of cars three times in a row. Paul got good air off the near set. Shafer also took on the bus but didn't get good air off of it. Decent run to start off freestyle. Score: 4
Raminator (Hall) The Racing winner came out to strut his stuff in freestyle. Mark caught the best air of the night. He attacked everything on the track. Best air off the pool for the night. Best donuts of the night. Mark cleared all 5 cars a couple of times. Awesome run. Score: 9
Rammunition (Benear) Benear got good air under that big Dodge Hemi. Dale started the run early with a moon shot off of the pool. Dale failed to get the Dodge way up there. Dale also threw in some nice donuts. Good solid run from Benear. Score: 7
Airborne Ranger (Cypher) Joe but some good air under the truck for being under powered, Cypher attacked everything on the track including the FMX hill. Joe showed a lot of guts in this run, very nice run Score: 6
Scorpion King (Swim) Larry came out and caught huge air off the far set which resulted in a pogo and a endo. Larry had a very nice wheelie over the FMX hill. Larry was catching great air off of everything. Larry also threw in a slap wheelie. Very good run from Swim. Score: 8
Bear Foot Old School (Townsend) Brian came out with his truck not being at 100%. Brian did what he could in Bear Foot. The only thing Brian could really do was sky wheelies. Well Brian did a good job of that. Brian caught great air off of the cars. On most of the jumps Townsend cleared all 5 cars and some. On his longest jump Townsend pulled a nice slap wheelie. It could of been better if he wouldn't of broke in qualifying and then again at the beginning of his freestyle run. I think he might of been able to catch Hall if he wouldn't of broke. Great run. Score: 7
Maniac (Frankish) Don came out and seemed to get pretty good air off of the cars. Don hit the bus twice late in the run and the truck just hung up in the air after hitting the pyramid. A good run from Don yet I was expecting a little more. Score: 6.5
Jurassic Attack (Weenk) Lindsey came out straight for the FMX hill. Not much air out of it but Weenk came back around and got good air off the pool. Lindsey had 4 or 5 good hits on the cars and 2 good hits on the pyramid. Week also got around to the FMX hill two more times and in one of them he came away with a nice little wheelie. Good run by Lindsey. Score: 7.5
All in all Joilet was a great show. Hopefully we will see the shows at Joilet only get better. I need to thank Jason and his Dad for allowing me to tag along with them. If it wasn't for them I would not of been able to make the show. IT was also a pleasure to meet Elliot Miller and Steve Maver. If you are in the Midwest area I encourage you to make the trip to Joilet. Remember to check Jason Twite's Midwest Monsters and Elliot Miller's Michigan Monster Trucks for more in depth coverage of Joilet. Also be on the look out for my new site ChiTownMonsters.com. Thanks for reading - Andrew Pellegrine
